Day 15

Tuesday, July 9, 2013. Jay stayed home from work today to meet the guy from Pella windows and also a guy about cutting the big pine trees down (he never showed. I guess he doesn't need the business). I had a good day at work--kind of regular.

I am taking care of Carrie L.'s plant this summer (I did it last year, too), but this year the plant is in my office because Carrie is switching her position from the Shattuck House Secretary to the Athletic Secretary. Shirley K. (was the Athletic and Diversity Secretary) is going to work just for Leo, the Director of Diversity. Sharon M. is switching her job, too, going to work as the new Campus Safety Secretary. So her position (Cranston House Secretary) is open as well. They did the interviews for those two positions today.

Anyway, the plant was quite dusty when Carrie brought it over. She said to take good care of it. She has had it for 10 years now. Anyway, this afternoon, there was a deluge (thunder, lightening, and all).  The plant was so dusty. I'm sure the leaves had a hard time breathing. So I decided to put it outside in all the rain, and it now looks great. Here I am bringing the plant back into the office:

It was still raining during this picture but not the deluge :). The plant felt really happy.

Anyway, I got home and peeled some potatoes for dinner. I had an appointment to visit Dianne S. with the sister missionaries at 5:00 and I wanted something to be done for dinner. Also, I needed to paint the top of the bureau. I did the base coat when I got home and then the first coat just before we left. When we got to Dianne's, she was on the way out the door for Tanner's baseball practice (even though she had an appointment with the missionaries). So, we stood there for a minute, and I suggested that we go to baseball practice with them. Great idea! So we did. I followed Dianne and we spent about 45 minutes at the field talking. It was fun. Here is a picture of Sister Caldwell, Sister Nielson, me, and Dianne.

The sisters did not have a dinner appointment or anything, so I thought it would be good to stop and get some dinner. Subway turned out to be the place to go, so we went there to pick up 6" grinders for us, Jay, and Peter. We ate them at home.

Before we ate, I put a coat of paint on the bureau top. Then Peter had a ton of English homework that he wanted me to proof read. This is the curse of a good proof reader. I just wish he had finished his work sooner than tonight. His deadline has become mine. Grrrrr.

The top of the bureau is not turning out as smooth as I want it.
